Season of Creation
Each year, tens of thousands of Christians around the world celebrate the Season of Creation, which runs from September 1st, the World Day of Prayer for Creation, to October 4th, the feast of St Francis of Assisi.
The Season of Creation was instigated by the Orthodox church in 1989 and taken up by many other faith traditions and ecumenical bodies including the World Council of Churches. Since 2009, the Anglican Consultative Council has called on provinces to include the Season of Creation in their yearly pattern of worship.
Paulo Ueti, the Anglican Alliance’s Theological Adviser is a member of the Season of Creation Advisory Committee.
Resources
The 2024 Season of Creation guide can be found here.
A host of other resources has been created across the Anglican Communion to celebrate the Season of Creation and creation care more generally:
- The Episcopal Church has a wonderful set of resources and a podcast on the liturgy through a social justice lens.
- The Scottish Episcopal Church has some wonderful liturgies.
- The Church of England has some great resources here.
- Scottish Eco-congregations has some very creative multi-media resources (from last year but still relevant).

The Season of Creation is the annual Christian celebration to pray and respond together to the cry of Creation: the ecumenical family around the world unites to listen and care for our common home, the Oikos of God.
