Goal

To gain an independent review from the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment (PCE) into the practice of hydraulic fracturing as a method for extracting oil and gas in New Zealand. To gain a ban on the practice in earthquake affected Canterbury.

Activity

Research. Compile research document. Take representatives to community boards and councils to call for a ban. Co-ordinate and direct strategy of concerned locals. Frame debate in mainstream media in respectable, responsible manner. Maintain public pressure. Begin to approach community boards about declaration of being frack free (no legal power, but publically very powerful).

Outcomes

Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment announced they would undertake an inquiry. Continue to work on boards.
