Declaration from Lusophone churches commits to continued communion after meeting in Brazil

DECLARATION of the II MEETING OF PORTUGUESE-SPEAKING CHURCHES of the ANGLICAN COMMUNION

The II meeting of Portuguese-speaking Churches of the Anglican Communion gathered under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, in the city of Recife, in Pernambuco State, Brazil, from 26 to 28 February, 2015, brought together people, among delegates and guests, including bishops, clerics and laypersons of the Dioceses of the Lebombo and Niassa (Mozambique) and Angola of the Anglican Church of southern Africa, the Lusitanian Catholic Apostolic Evangelical Church (Portugal) and the Episcopal Anglican Church of Brazil (IEAB), being the last hosting the Event, which took place with the partnership and support of Anglican Alliance and The United Society (Us). In addition to these organizations, also present were: the representative of the IEAB in the Anglican Consultative Council (CCA), the National Commission of Social Diakonia of the IEAB; the Anglican Service of Diakonia and Development (SADD) of the IEAB; Anglican Studies Center (CEA) of the IEAB; the Youth Working Group of the IEAB; the Anglican Episcopal women’s Union of Brazil (UMEAB); the Anglican Institute of theological studies and the Department of Women of the Lusitanian Church; the Mothers ‘ Union, of Lebombo, Mozambique.

The meeting constituted an important space of celebration, sharing and reflection, with devotional moments, plenary sessions, sharing in groups, Bible study with the theme “who is/my/ neighbour”, from the text of Luke 10:25 -37; and a WEBINAR streamed online. The agenda had featured the following generating themes: (a) the role of young people; (b) the role of women; (c) Christian education and theological training; (d) diakonia and social development.

The delegations of these churches (8 bishops, 3 priestesses, 6 priests, 1 deacon, 6 laywomen and 3 laymen), that together represent a community of about 350,000 anglican people, distributed over different continents and sociocultural contexts. The meeting emphasised the role of the Portuguese language as an element of unity in diversity, both for the countries represented at the meeting, but also to other Portuguese-speaking communities around the world. All persons participating expressed the wish of issuing this Declaration, to convey the main conclusions and commitments of collaboration.

Thus, it was agreed the development of effective efforts from which concrete results can emerge:

a)     To promote in each Church the dissemination of the action of the different Anglican Churches of Portuguese expression; 

b)    To establish relations of partnership in mission among different Portuguese-speaking Anglican dioceses and other actions of relationship, exchange of delegations and sharing of information and resources;

c)     To request the solidarity and support of other organizations of the Anglican world to carry out these actions, and, in particular, for the convening of the next Portuguese-speaking meeting within three years; 

d)    Henceforth to create, from its own resources, the Working Group, consisting of one representative of each of the churches or dioceses:

Helen Van Koevering, presbíter, Niassa, Moçambique;
Joana Chilengue, lay, Libombos, Moçambique;
Jorge Pina Cabral, bishop, Portugal;
Kiaku Eduardo Avelino, presbíter, Angola;
Paulo Ueti, lay theologian, Brasil.

This working group will be responsible for monitoring these actions; and for presenting to the competent authorities a request for establishment of the Lusophone Network of Anglican Communion, that includes in its agenda, among others, the generating themes reflected in the Meeting.

DECLARAÇÃO DO II ENCONTRO DE IGREJAS LUSÓFONAS DA COMUNHÃO ANGLICANA

O II Encontro de Igrejas Lusófonas da Comunhão Anglicana reunido sob a inspiração do Espírito Santo, na cidade do Recife, no Estado de Pernambuco, Brasil, de 26 a 28 de fevereiro de 2015, congregou 27 pessoas, entre delegadas e convidadas, incluindo bispos, clérigas, clérigos e pessoas leigas das Dioceses dos Libombos e Niassa (Moçambique) e de Angola da Igreja Anglicana da África Austral, da Igreja Lusitana Católica Apostólica Evangélica (Portugal) e da Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil (IEAB), sendo essa última a anfitriã do Evento, que decorreu com a parceria e o apoio da Anglican Aliance e The United Society (Us). Para além destas organizações, estiveram também presentes: o representante da IEAB no Conselho Consultivo Anglicano (CCA), a Comissão Nacional de Diaconia Social da IEAB; o Serviço Anglicano de Diaconia e Desenvolvimento (SADD) da IEAB; o Centro de Estudos Anglicanos (CEA) da IEAB; o Grupo de Trabalho da Juventude da IEAB; a União das Mulheres Episcopais Anglicanas do Brasil (UMEAB); o Instituto Anglicano de Estudos Teológicos e o Departamento de Mulheres da Igreja Lusitana; a União das Mães, de Libombos, Moçambique.  

O Encontro constituiu um importante espaço de celebração, partilha e reflexão, com momentos devocionais, sessões plenárias, partilha em grupos, estudo bíblico com o tema “quem é o/a meu/minha próximo/a”, a partir do texto de Lucas 10:25-37; e um WEBINAR transmitido on line. Na agenda de trabalho tiveram destaque os seguintes temas geradores: (a) o papel de jovens; (b) o papel das mulheres; (c) educação cristã e formação teológica; (d) diaconia e desenvolvimento social.

As delegações dessas Igrejas (8 bispos, 3 presbíteras, 6 presbíteros, 1 diácono, 6 leigas e 3 leigos), que em conjunto representam uma comunidade com cerca de 350.000 pessoas anglicanas, distribuídas por diferentes continentes e contextos socioculturais. O Encontro sublinhou o papel da língua portuguesa como elemento da unidade na diversidade, tanto para os países representados no Encontro, como também para restantes comunidades lusófonas espalhadas pelo mundo. As pessoas participantes entenderam emitir a presente Declaração, expressando as principais conclusões e compromissos de colaboração.

Assim, foi acordado o desenvolvimento de esforços efetivos de que saiam resultados concretos para:

a)    Promover em cada igreja a divulgação da ação das diferentes igrejas anglicanas de expressão lusófona;

b)    Estabelecer relações de companheirismo em missão entre diferentes dioceses anglicanas lusófonas e outras ações de relacionamento, troca de delegações e partilha de informações e recursos;

c)    Solicitar o apoio solidário de outras organizações do mundo anglicano para a realização dessas ações, e, em especial, para a convocação do seguinte encontro lusófono no prazo máximo de três anos;

d)    Criar, desde já, a partir de recursos próprios, o Grupo de Trabalho, constituído por uma pessoa representante de cada uma das igrejas ou dioceses:

Joana Chilengue, leiga, Libombos, Moçambique;
Jorge Pina Cabral, bispo, Portugal;
Kiaku Eduardo Avelino, presbítero, Angola;
Paulo Ueti, teólogo leigo, Brasil.

Este Grupo de Trabalho será responsável pelo acompanhamento dessas ações; e por apresentar às entidades competentes a solicitação de criação da Rede Lusófona da Comunhão Anglicana, que inclua em sua agenda, dentre outros, os temas geradores refletidos no Encontro.
